HEALTH IS MORE THAN JUST THE CALORIES YOU EAT

By Andy Hillocks

Fat loss IS NOT health. Fat loss is often related to improvements in physiological health markers, but these markers are more than just calories in vs calories out.

Eating for health and eating for fat loss are different things. Take bikini and physique competitors for example, their main goal is fat loss, however come show day, they are anything but ‘healthy’.

Physiological health includes things such as sleep, physical activity,  and food choices do matter. I would hope by now that many of you understand that food is far more than just macros and calories. The calorie equivalent of a mars bar to fruit may help you reach that fat loss goal, but I know which one will nourish your body more and is more in line with the term ‘health’.

You can eat a high carbohydrate diet and be perfectly healthy. You can eat a high fat diet and be perfectly healthy. Or you can eat a balanced diet and be perfectly healthy. But in all these scenarios make sure you are consuming nutrient dense foods over processed foods.

Food quality DOES matter.
