FLOTATION THERAPY – REVIEW

By Lucy Carpenter

I was first introduced to flotation therapy by a member of the gym who had recently opened his own shop, SimplyFloat. To be honest, I had never heard of it before. However I love trying therapies such as this and am always open to trying out new and different things.  I often feel very tired and fatigued and get rather achy muscles especially after training, and I was told that flotation tanks are great for relaxation (amongst other benefits) so I decided to give it a try.

The tanks are surprisingly spacious which I did not expect, and they come with a light switch so that you can control the lighting yourself to whatever you are most comfortable with, and also an alarm button in case of emergency. This helped to put me at ease as I wasn’t keen on the idea of being in there in the dark at first. However, after a few minutes I got used to being in the tank so I switched off the light and was able to relax more. It’s a very unique experience as the water is body temperature so you don’t feel like you are floating in water; instead you feel like you are floating in mid-air. I drifted in and out of a light sleep state until the soft sound of waves started to bring me back around into awakeness.

Later that day, I was feeling very relaxed and refreshed. I felt like I’d come out of a really long sleep with not a worry or care in the world. It seemed to soften my skin a bit too.

The team at SimplyFloat were really helpful, and explained everything thoroughly beforehand so that I knew what to expect. The facilities are to a very high standard and very well equipped with showers, hairdryers, towels etc. They even offered me a tea/coffee afterwards in the lounge area, which is wonderful if you are still feeling all relaxed and not quite ready to rush straight off.  I will definitely be back to continue my flotation experience, for me primarily so that I can switch off from everyday life and stresses, and to for one hour just think about nothing.
